Congestive Heart Disease

The heart diseases have always contributed a hand to almost 80 % of the world’s deaths. We ourselves must have heard about people dying of cardiac arrest, heart block and Angina. Let us take a look on another such killer disease of the heart that affects mankind.

The other term used for this disease is called as Heart Failure, which is familiar to all of us in this modern world. This disorder can easily arise from any structural impairment of the cardiac muscle. This in turn affects the effective functioning of the heart as a pumping organ in our body.

This disease closely denotes the pathological process of the Myocardium, a ring of muscles which play a key role in maintaining the heart beat. The Cardiac function in the affected patients is over normal leading to the over work load of the heart and thus disrupts the normal functioning. The over working of the heart can also arise when diseases like Anemia, beriberi, Thyrotoxicosis and other ailments.

Diagnosis:

To diagnose this disease, the best way to do it is to go for a ECG immediately. This method is used to determine Stroke Volume which is the sound passed when the blood leaves the heart through the Sino-Ventricular Node of the heart. It also measures the End Diastolic Volume (EDV). This method is very useful that it can easily indicate the malfunctioning of the heart. The good thing about this method is that it can assess the sate of Pericardium.

It helps in the decision making of the doctor in deciding the good treatment methods for a particular patient. Also it helps in the diagnosis of myocardial ischemia which is another killer disease.

Also blood tests are useful in determining the functioning of the heart in the way that the increased level of B-type natriuretic peptide which indicates Heart Failure. Also this BNP is used to differentiate between various kinds of other malfunctions of the heart.

Besides there are various other methods to diagnose this disease like Angiography which involves the insertion of balloon like catheter to blow of the fatty deposits in a coronary artery thus clearing the space for blood flow.

Treatment:

The treatment is always simple. It comes with the advice of change of lifestyle in the form of leaving alcohol, stopping smoking. These are simple yet effective ones of coming out of the disease completely or at least controlling it to some extent. One should also avoid eating high salty woods and consumption of more healthy foods also helps the cause.

Also if all the methods fail then the only hope for the patient is heart Transplantation, which is a life threatening process as it involves change of heart itself. If it fails due to rejection from the body then the patient will surely die. So change your lifestyle for the better!
